What Trust Means To Me In My Everyday Dealings In Life
By Gloria
Trust is a very core factor in my life as it is in everyone's life. When I wake in the morning I trust that I will do the best I can that day and I trust that my encounters with others throughout my day will bring forth situations that might challenge me and will definitely give me reason to smile within.
Trust is so essential to life. We learn at an early age that we must put our trust in given situations and in particular people in our lives in order to navigate life. For without trust we would live in a constant state of fear and isolation. We often learn the hard way about trust as I did in elementary school, when I discovered I could trust one classmate with my secrets but not another.
To trust a person is to feel safe with someone, for there has been a history between you that lets you know that this person is a kind and caring person who does not function from a state of manipulation, deception and/or greed. Their word can be trusted and there is a mutual respect for each other’s well being. When I meet a person for the first time I look forward to finding out the good qualities of that person. I want to know how they operate. Are they curious, do they enjoy humor, are they able to communicate their dreams, joys and troubles in a way that I may be invited into their world, even if it is on a business level? I basically want to know if they are true to their word: trustworthy.
At an early age I also noticed that you can see a change in a person’s body language that might signal that they may not be trustworthy. Meaning some people will never look you in the eye if they are not being upfront with you or they may be overly uncomfortable or forcefully aggressive in their manner. These are signals to me to take it easy with this person.
If you look up “trust” in the dictionary there are a handful of words using trust, then the following word is “truth”. To me that says it all…. In order to have trust with another person in business or in one’s personal life, you must be truthful in your actions and words in order to build a solid relationship based on trust.

Doug, Gloria - you are so right about trust coming from one's life experience. The image of the path made me think about how we are on the path of trust everyday, especially in our new landscape of real estate.
Doug/Gloria - I particularly like your last paragraph - to have trust you must be truthful. The old saying - "like attracts like." Great job.
Hi Emily, Thank you for that feedback about the photo. Yes we are on a daily path of trust in our ever changing profession.
All the best to you.
Gloria
Thanks Juli. It was so interesting to see those words next to each other in the dictionary.
Take care,
Gloria
Doug & Gloria, Your feelings about trust and how often we will determine if a person is trustworthy based on body language is very true. I don't think that many people think about this however. Great post.
Gloria:
When I was young I trusted people because my Mom and Dad said they were nice people. When I went to school I was open to trusting others until they proved they could not be trusted. As I have grown older, I find I trust fewer people. I guess that comes from life experience and maybe being more guarded about myself.
Hi Gary, I am a very visual person so I notice things like that. Thank you for your comments.
Hi Evelyn, Yes we are told who to trust when we are young, then we learn the hard way as be mature, thus pulling back. Thanks for stopping by!
