Cleaning House For The Newly Hatched In Delaware CountyToday I was in the garden for a few moments and came upon this robin's egg. It seems there are babies hatched nearby and mom or dad cleaned out the nest of this now unneeded egg to make the nest cozy for the new baby robins.
Since a pair of robins are still building their nest out in front of the house, the location of this nest is a mystery. With all the trees now sporting their warm weather attire it is very hard to locate nests up high in the leaves.
The blue color of a robin's egg has always been one of my favorite colors. I have yet to see a nest full of eggs in person. Robins nests are usually built too high for my viewing. Mom and dad robin know how to build away from predators and they know how to keep a clean house, I mean nest.
Do you have any robin egg stories or photos to share?

Hi Doug and Gloria, what a cute blog. Have fun with the 31 days in May contest.
Fascinating that their shells are so blue and they are red (breasted); nature is a wonder of its own. Great story; hope you find the nest; listen for the little chirps.
Hi Doug and Gloria, I'm not sure the Robins nest in our area, they usually come here in winter and go back to your garden in the Spring. I found an empty egg shell the other day while walking, it too had been discarded by some bird parents. There was not even a bush around, amazing how far they must carry off the "garbage" sometimes! :-)
Gloria, I've always been attracted to the blue egg too! I wonder why they are blue when the birds are brown with a red breast? Isn't nature great?

What a great picture! Makes me want to run out and get some Cadbury eggs :)
Gloria,
That blue color was my Mom's favorite. It always reminds me of Spring.

Last year, we found a robin's nest in a birdhouse that my son had built for bluebirds. We heard chirping and peeked in to see a baby bird in the nest. So many small delights found in the outdoors.
I have always loved the robin's blue eggs. My wife had a 55 Chevy that color when she was in high school
