Gloria - This must be cactus day this is the second post I've looked at in the last few moments both with great pictures
Cacti can have very pretty flowers!
Hi Gloria... do you actually see many cacti in Pennsylvania? I wouldn't have believed they would survive your winters.
I think a cactus can survive just about anywhere, as long as it gets enough sun. I run across them here when someone has decided to use them as landscaping. But I give them a wide berth... bad memories from falling into a giant one as a child >.< OUCH!
It is amazing where cacti can survive and I will say again, their flowers are among my favorite! They are just beautiful!
Kathy, Funny how that works! Thank you. Have a great day.
Jim, yes after looking so formidable with their thorns and then so inviting with their flowers.
Steve, I never knew up until a few years ago when a woman on my street offered me a few. They shrivel up in the winter and look like a goner, but then when the sun grows stronger they do the same. They survived this winter with record breaking snows. Hearty plants.
Lisa, gosh, that would be a hard lesson to learn as a kid. Cacti really know how to protect themselves. And it seems they can live in more places I imagined.
Tony. Yes their flowers are amazing!

Doug and Gloria,
Beautiful blooming prickly pear. They have such pretty flowers, and these are quite karge and colorful. :)
Steve
What a surprise! But definitely not only surviving but thriving - beautifully!
Steve, Thanks for the name "prickly pear". Ants really like the flowers too.
Nancy, A great surprise! Thanks.
Gloria
That's an Opuntia, more commonly known as the common prickly pear. They, as well as all cactus, will survive just about anywhere as long as you don't water them, so people living in snow climates usually have them in pots that can be brought inside when it snows.
