Trivia About Those Wavy 2010 Winter Olympic Medals
All of the medals for the Winter 2010 Olympic Games are made from recycled metal taken from computers, TVs and keyboards. Instead of being a traditional flat metal, they are wavy, "evoking the terrain throughout Canada, with its drifting snow, mountains and ocean waves". The artwork on each metal is a portion of a larger piece of art depicting an Orca Whale. Each Olympian receives a silk scarf that has a print of the full piece of art so they can see where their medal is located in the larger piece of art. Each medal is a unique medal. The bronze medal is made from cooper, the silver is all silver and the gold is mostly silver with a gold covering.
The art work for the medal was made by Corrine Hunt a Canadian artist of Komoyue and Tlingit heritage based in Vancouver, BC. Teck Resources produced and supplied the medals with the help of the Royal Canadian Mint. (My curiosity is now satisfied - Gloria)

That is great information. The folks from up north sure put a lot into the games. Glad they did so well.
That is really interesting information on the medals. I'd love to see one for myself.
Doug and Gloria, they don't look the way I always thought they "should" look, and I sort of like them!
Frank, I think they did a great job also.
Irene, I'd love to see one also.
