One Way To Rid A House Of Negative Energy - Smudging
Have you ever gone into a house and just gotten the heebeegeebees? Or you find out something really bad happened in the house you just bought, and you want to somehow erase this negative energy from this house's history? (Please read post by Patricia Kennedy) Well there is one way to rid a house of negative energy and bring new/good energy in if one can find a person who knows how to "smudge" with Sage and Sweet Grass. Smudging with Sage is the initial step, it removes the bad energy. Smudging with Sweet Grass, is the second step, this brings in the new and good energy. Do not just smudge with Sage, do both steps.
Many years ago I had the honor and opportunity to learn about smudging from a few Native Americans. For many Native Americans, smudging is used on a personal level as well as in ceremonies and in similar situations mentioned here.
If you are open to such ideas and can find someone who can do a smudging for you, by all means give it a go. On a final note, if you go forward with this, I ask that you please honor the sacredness of this tradition with sincere respect.

Interesting concept; does it work to rid one's house of the negative energy of an ex-spouse? Charlie Gantz, Greenwood, IN; J.D., M.B.A.; Owner/Principal Broker, Atlas Commercial Real Estate, LLC
Charles, it can be used for any reason. And that would be a good one. ---Gloria
Hello Doug and Gloria...Very nice to see hour post. Smudging is a great way to clear the air and help bring fresh energy of change to the environment. Smudging followed by open windows and then some incense can work wondert to create a fresh new vibe in the home.
Doug and Gloria, I had a seller smudge her house right before an Open House. That's probably not the best timing - it left an awful smell!
Gloria. I'm a big believer in many of the Native American customs. I'm going to have to learn more about smudging. Can you point me in the right direction?
I smudge every house I move into, or after a nasty fight with someone. You really can tell a difference. When I was married, my husband came home one day and said "The house feels different - what's changed?" after I'd smudged. He had no idea I did such things, so he had no way of knowing!
John, Thank you. Yes it is a wonderful way to make a fresh start.
Patricia, no not the best timing.....too bad the seller did not put on a crockpot of apple cider or some other food, to give off a wonderful aroma during the Open House.
Gary, I am very open to many of their ways as well. I would recommend that you find a Native American Cultural Center near you and go to a Pow Wow, if open to the public (they usually are). Or go to a shop that sells Native American crafts and see if they have a list of upcoming events where you could mingle and find a person open to your questions. It was when I lived on the west coast that I became more aware of the great teachings of Native Americans. Thanks for your comment and inquiry. Please let me know how you make out! All the best.
Jennifer, how wonderful to hear your experience and about your ex's ability to feel something different.

Hi Gloria, I've watched Native Americans practice this on various properties I've visited. It is a very meaningful experience.
I smudged with sage at the Chinese New Year on February 14th, but have not heard of the sweetgrass smudging to bring in new. Hmmmm....where to buy sweetgrass smudge stick? I had a sage smudgestick on hand, but everything is covered in snow currently, so no "gathering of sweetgrass" in my near future!
Hey Frank, It is a good experience.
Cheryl, it is harder to find than sage. Locate a shop that sells incense, maybe they can help you. Otherwise you may have to wait for the warmer weather. ---Gloria
