Arch Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI) - ABC'S OF REAL ESTATE (A-Z/A)

Arch Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI)Arch Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI) - ABC'S OF REAL ESTATE (A-Z/A)

Circuit breakers...they cut an electrical current when there is an over load on the line potentially saving property and lives.  And then there are Arch Fault Circuit Interrupters (Arch Fault Breakers), that will cut an electrical current when is senses an arch of electricity in a line with greater potential to save property and lives.

What's the difference?

Circuit breakers are the workhorses in most homes today.  They protect the wire that they are connected to which is behind a wall and unseen.  They will trip if they sense a short that causes masses amounts of electricity to race through the circuit and when they sense a heat build up inside the breaker; in both instances a fire is prevented.

Arch Fault Breakers are used in new construction and are making their way into older homes because of their ability to prevent fires above and beyond the ability of regular circuit breakers.  They will trip when an arch of electricity occurs in a line where the protective insulation on a line to the box or a line plugged into an AFCI outlet has broken due to age or from damage from a cord being caught under a piece of furniture, exposure to heat, a wire being punctured from picture hanging, etc., thus preventing a fire.

AFCI's cost more money than regular circuit breakers but are well worth the cost if a fire is prevented.  Regular circuit breakers costs around $10, AFCI's may cost $30 or more.

AFCI's have a test button, which needs to be tested monthly to ensure their effectiveness.

ROSE TREE PARK, MEDIA, PENNSYLVANIA (Delaware County)

Welcome to Rose Tree ParkROSE TREE MEDIA PARK, MEDIA, PENNSYLVANIA (Delaware County)
1671 N. Providence Road (Route 252 & Rose Tree Road)
Media, PA 19063
(610)565-7410

Rose Tree Park is a place where one can walk, recycle, plant a garden, enjoy freeCommunity Garden concerts in the summer and think of peace on earth while looking at the decorative lights offered during the winter holiday season.

One of the treats of summer is being able to go to a free concert in Rose Tree Park.  Situated under theAmphitheater & Grass Terraces sky, and then stars after nightfall one can enjoy live entertainment from many area performers.  Bands and dance troupes do their thing on the stage of the outdoor amphitheater while entertaining people as they sit in their lawn chairs or on blankets on the grass terraces in front of the stage.  Some people make a real outing with these concerts by bringing dinner, then enjoying a show.  Other people make it a place to gather with friends and family members.  It can be a destination for a date, or it can provide a comfortable environment for those lone lovers of live entertainment.  It is a wonderful alternative to sitting in front of a TV.

Shortly after Thanksgiving as the holiday season gets underway, the park has its annual tree lighting ceremony which kicks off the season for nightly displays of lights in honor of the peace of the season.

Rose Tree TavernOn the corner of the property you may notice a closed up stone building.  Well that is the Rose Tree Tavern.  In 2004 it was moved inland around 200 feet to make way for a future expansion of the intersection it had been built on in the late 1700's.  A heartfelt thanks to the powers that be, that saved this historical building from the wrecking ball.  For more info check here www.pspe.org/delco/rosetree.pdf

So whenever you choose or you just happen to be on the outskirts of Media on Route 252, take a few minutes to stop and enjoy the peace and calm that this green setting can offer.

LINVILLA ORCHARDS, MEDIA, PENNSYLVANIA (Brookhaven, PA)

Linvilla Orchards, Media, PennsylvaniaLINVILLA ORCHARDS, MEDIA, PENNSYLVANIA (Brookhaven, PA - Delaware County)
137 W. Knowlton Road
Media, PA 19063

Linvilla Orchards is an all season, all age attraction located on the outskirts of Media and Brookhaven.  One can easily slip out of suburbia and into the countryside by visiting Linvilla in order to regain a sense of connection with nature and life on the farm.  Linvilla keeps up with all the seasons not only in providing the fruits and vegetables that most seasons bring, but they provide attractions, like Pumpkin Land and blueberry picking; activities to engage people in the season that is at hand.

There is a store for buying many edible goods, a zoo of sorts where one can see animals up close, craftAnimals at Linvilla Orchards shows and special events throughout the year, a playground and of course many acres of farmland.

Sheep and farmlandClose to the main entrance are the remains of a stone foundation of an octagon barn, which was a main attraction in itself prior to its destruction in a fire in 2002.  A wonderful building missed by many, myself included.  There are plans to rebuild the barn in the future.
