An All News Radio Station That Serves Philadelphia, Delaware County and Surrounding Areas - KYW 1060 AM
KYW is a radio station that has a regimented time to cover different types of news and offers news 24 hours a day 352 days a year and has been doing so since 1921. The location of the station on the radio dial changed once way back but for most of its existence has been at 1060 AM.
It is a station that can help you know in a 15-20 minute time period what the current road conditions are, the weather for the next 5 days, sports news, breaking and top local news, important national and world news.
It's main focus is in and around the Philadelphia area, south New Jersey to the Jersey Shore, up the Northeast Extension, out the turnpike towards Harrisburg, south down into Delaware and in and around Delaware, Bucks, Chester and Montgomery Counties: basically close to where the tri-state areas meet.
It is a station that can give breaking news when it happens, gives weather reports to help parents dress their kids for school and gives a garden report, a health report along with other reports that keep things in the news up to date. Because of it's tight schedule it is not in depth news, but news nonetheless. If there is a major event they devote more time to such events.
KYW's formula for reporting is as follows:
Top of the hour and bottom of hour: short coverage of top and breaking news locally, nationally and major world events followed by weather, traffic and more details of news.
On the 2's: you can get traffic updates - this can be a life saver if you are heading out to the Blue Route, 95, the Schuylkill Expressway or any road in this tri state area. This report will even cover public transit.
Weather reports follow the traffic reports:
Quarter after and Quarter of the hour: after a highlight of quick top news there is a section on sports.
It is not a public station so there are commercials and many local businesses advertise on KYW.
Set a station in your car and use it your way to and from work, the shore or the Pocono's: it may just help you around that traffic jam one day.
