What started as a man helping a cousin with class work long distance by making tutorial YouTube videos, has grown into a free on-line classroom for anyone, anywhere, who has access to a computer and the internet.
Through the generosity of Sal Khan, the world can now learn from over 2100 videos he has made through the Khan Academy. He was inspired to continue making videos on countless subjects above and beyond the videos he made to help his relative.
With all the hardships schools are up against, with budget cuts, this alternative tool may be able to help bridge some gaps that budget cuts might create.
The same is true for busy parents who might not be able to afford or may not be able to help their children outside of the classroom experience. This on-line academy could make all the difference in a child's academic experience.
The Khan Academy may also be a tool that could truly spark an interest in a subject that might not happen in a regular classroom setting. Most children today enjoy the on-line experience, so no wonder this academy just keeps growing.
