Face Masks

Years ago, in another career, I was given the opportunity to spend a month in Japan to further my education within the Japanese textile company I worked for. It was a wonderful experience and I was able to observe some of the ways this island culture interacted with each other.

Face MasksOne way was how people who were concerned about spreading germs or picking up germs, wore face masks. The masks were worn by people who were feeling under the weather, say with the onset of a cold or known flu. The wearer would use the mask in public and on the job, so they would not spread their germs to others.

To me this was a very thoughtful gesture.

The masks were probably worn also by healthy people, so they would not pick up germs while around others in public, or in close quarters with others, much like how healthy hospital workers do, when dealing with certain patients in a hospital setting.

Now that we are all in a new reality with this Covid-19 pandemic, the use of face masks has become an almost universal thing. Research will reveal the actual benefits of using cloth face masks. But for now, I will gladly wear a mask in public to hopefully not spread an unseen virus that has taken life and has changed life as we know it.

In the photos are a few cloth masks I have made before running out of elastic. We kept a few for ourselves and the others were mailed to family who live at a distance.

Please take care everyone.
