We visited this town and park last year and were surprised to find out the ceremony was not held in town as depicted in the movie “Groundhog Day”, but in this park on the outskirts of town.  A few locals we spoke to said the filmmakers wanted the okay to film the movie in town but then never filmed it on location.

groundhog dayPhil does live in a downtown park next to the library and you can see him in his burrow through the windows.  Unfortunately our photos did not turn out of Phil sleeping that day.

Because of Phil's notoriety, there are many things in town that carry his name, such as names of stores and the many groundhog statues decorated and place around the town.

Mindless And Counting

Mindless And Counting
by Gloria

Playing FreeCell Solitaire on the computer is one of my chosen mindless means of escape and recharging.  It is something I do here and there, not a true addiction like watching the evening news or drinking my daily cup of tea with milk and honey, but an addiction of sorts.

real estate delaware county paWay back in late 2007 I started at game one of one million games of FreeCell, because it was the only solitaire game that allowed me to choose the number game I wanted play.  This option gave me purpose to my mindless card playing, so I set out to win every game!

Today I am up to game 4244 and out of those games I am stumped by 3 games.  No matter how many times I go back to those 3 games I cannot win them.

So you might be asking, why is she writing this post?

Well, playing these games reminds me a lot of situations in life.

Some situations just fall into place, no matter what you do; you manage to move ahead easily and without much effort.

Then there are times when situations require starting over and over until one minor change opens up a new way of dealing with things.  Persistence does pay off most of the time if you want a desired result.

And then some things never work out the way you want them to.  No matter what you do, no matter how much time you work at something, it just isn’t meant to be…. like those 3 games.

What Trust Means To Me In My Everyday Dealings In Life

What Trust Means To Me In My Everyday Dealings In Life
By Gloria

Trust is a very core factor in my life as it is in everyone's life. When I wake in the morning I trust that I will do the best I can that day and I trust that my encounters with others throughout my day will bring forth situations that might challenge me and will definitely give me reason to smile within.

real estate delaware county paTrust is so essential to life. We learn at an early age that we must put our trust in given situations and in particular people in our lives in order to navigate life.  For without trust we would live in a constant state of fear and isolation.  We often learn the hard way about trust as I did in elementary school, when I discovered I could trust one classmate with my secrets but not another.

To trust a person is to feel safe with someone, for there has been a history between you that lets you know that this person is a kind and caring person who does not function from a state of manipulation, deception and/or greed.  Their word can be trusted and there is a mutual respect for each other’s well being.

real estate delaware county paWhen I meet a person for the first time I look forward to finding out the good qualities of that person.  I want to know how they operate.  Are they curious, do they enjoy humor, are they able to communicate their dreams, joys and troubles in a way that I may be invited into their world, even if it is on a business level?  I basically want to know if they are true to their word: trustworthy.

At an early age I also noticed that you can see a change in a person’s body language that might signal that they may not be trustworthy.  Meaning some people will never look you in the eye if they are not being upfront with you or they may be overly uncomfortable or forcefully aggressive in their manner.  These are signals to me to take it easy with this person.

If you look up “trust” in the dictionary there are a handful of words using trust, then the following word is “truth”.  To me that says it all…. In order to have trust with another person in business or in one’s personal life, you must be truthful in your actions and words in order to build a solid relationship based on trust.

Blogs Can Beget Spam

real estate delaware county pa spamBlogs Can Beget Spam

Blogging is a very public act.  We bloggers put ourselves out there in order to bring in business, to network and to make friends.  Along with that exposure we open ourselves up to those potential and unwanted attacks from Spammers.

Earlier this year I slowly started to get spam on my Hyper-local Posts; a few here a few there.  Seemed like a handful of people were testing out their English.

Then it was like a crescendo, until one day a few months ago it was non-stop, every 5 minutes. The Spam was spreading out to all my Localism posts over the last year.

I called ActiveRain and was told to stop the Outside Comments for a while on the Settings Page. “Give it a rest for a few weeks”.  I've turned the Commenting Setting on here and there, but the spam just starts up again.

Thank you to Judi Boad for re-blogging Michael Thornton's post "Spam, Spam and More Spam..." which inspired this post.

Now because of those two posts I have the Monty Python’s tune “Spam” stuck in my head.

Happy Blogging Everyone!

Cleaning House For The Newly Hatched In Delaware County

Cleaning House For The Newly Hatched In Delaware County

real estate delaware county paToday I was in the garden for a few moments and came upon this robin's egg.
It seems there are babies hatched nearby and mom or dad cleaned out the nest of this now unneeded egg to make the nest cozy for the new baby robins.

Since a pair of robins are still building their nest out in front of the house, the location of this nest is a mystery.  With all the trees now sporting their warm weather attire it is very hard to locate nests up high in the leaves.

The blue color of a robin's egg has always been one of my favorite colors.  I have yet to see a nest full of eggs in person.  Robins nests are usually built too high for my viewing.  Mom and dad robin know how to build away from predators and they know how to keep a clean house, I mean nest.

Do you have any robin egg stories or photos to share?

The Origins Of Mother's Day In The United States

real estate delaware county paThe Origins Of Mother's Day In The United States

Mother's Day is a holiday that brings families together to celebrate the Mothers and Mother figures in our lives.  It is a day when: Mothers are treated by their families to special outings, to breakfast in bed, to a gift of flowers, or simply a thank you or many hugs by those who love them.

I always thought Mother's Day was simply a creation by Hallmark Cards or the floral industry. Sure they helped to make it the big holiday it is today, but I was wrong about it's early origin according to my Google research.

One of the early calls to celebrate Mother's Day can be attributed to the "Mother's Day Proclamation" written by Julia Ward Howe in 1870.  This proclamation was her reaction to Mothers' sons killing other Mothers' sons in the Civil War and the Franco-Prussian War.  She believed in the power of women and called for an international Mother's Day to celebrate peace and Motherhood.

(Interestingly, Julia Ward Howe was also the author of the Battle Hymn of the Republic 12 years before the writing of the Mother's Day Proclamation.)

The next two women to help in the efforts of establishing Mother's Day as a recognized holiday were a mother and daughter.  Anna Reeves Jarvis led a group in West Virginia to celebrate a holiday to help re-unite families and neighbors divided by the Civil War, The Mother's Friendship Day.

After Anna Reeves Jarvis death, her daughter Anna M. Jarvis continued the effort to create a national Mother's Day.  She succeeded in having President Woodrow Wilson in 1914 declare the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day.

When Anna M. was honoring her mother at death she put in place the significance of the color of carnations for this holiday: white carnations honor deceased Mothers, red and pink carnations honor Mothers who are alive.

To all of you Women who are Mothers and to those of you, who are Mother figures, may you know that you are appreciated on this special day and all days.

Happy Mother's Day!
